Kathie deNobriga - Mayor Pro-Tem is a free-lance consultant for small arts organizations, state arts agencies, and the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. She began her community arts career in 1974 with the North Carolina Arts Council’s Visiting Artist program. Kathie managed a performing arts center in Sanford, NC for nine years, directing community and youth theatre and playing a major role in the successful campaign to renovate a historic vaudeville house. For ten years Kathie directed Alternate ROOTS, a service organization for community-based artists in the Southeast, working closely with rural presenters and artists. She serves on the City Council and as Mayor ProTem of Pine Lake, Georgia.
Brian Carr and his family have called the City of Pine Lake their home since 2004. Brian is an Eagle Scout with demonstrated experience in civic and environmental issues ranging from education in Dekalb County to statewide ground-level ozone control strategies.
A career marketing and communications professional, Brian currently serves as The Clean Air Campaign’s director of communications, helping Georgia employers and commuters translate awareness about traffic and air quality issues into action.
Earlier in his career, Brian worked with the Citigroup network of financial services companies on successful internal and consumer campaigns and also managed print and broadcast advertising during the launch of Cingular Wireless for BBDO Atlanta, an advertising agency. He also founded and ran his own firm for a time, providing grassroots marketing, design and interactive media services for e-commerce and retail clients.
Brian graduated from the University of Georgia in 1996 with a degree in journalism. He and his wife, Elizabeth, live on Magnolia Drive with their two daughters.
Melanie Hammet is a musician and songwriter with a long history of performance and musical theater. She has released nearly a dozen albums including two collections of original children’s music, the soundtracks for several theatre productions, and a number of other recordings and singles. Her album “Edifice Complex and other urban plans” was inspired by conversations, events, and town meetings in her home city.
Hammet is also a two-term city council person in Pine Lake, GA and was the 2010 president of the Dekalb Municipal Association.
Elected official and musician? It turns out that imagination, collaboration, creative friction, and optimism—the operating principles of an artist—are an easy fit into the world of community service and small-town politics.
Bitsy Pitts joined the City Council in the 2007 election and enjoys her service to her beloved Pine Lake village.
Cindy Diamond joined the City Council in the 2009 election and is the co-owner of Duck Kosmic Kitchen in Decatur.
