CITY OF PINE LAKE

NOTICE OF REDEVELOPMENT PLAN and TOWN HALL
______________________________________________________________________

The Redevelopment Plans and Uptown Code definitions will be discussed at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting. Here are documents for downloading and review the Redevelopment Plans: Redevelopment Plan for 2011 and Uptown Development.

Pine Lake History (CH)

Starts: 7:30 pm

Ends: May 23, 2012 - 8:30 pm

Description: Inspired by listening to folks who share an interest in local
history, I'd like to convene other folks who are also interested, and
might see a role for themselves in some of the ideas below (or offer
some new ideas). We'll meet on Wednesday, May 23 at the Clubhouse,
at 7:30pm, for about an hour.

This History Initiative might have several efforts:

1) Gather oral histories.
I have already spoken to StoryCorps and set up two interview dates,
June 2 and 16, three people for each date. (We can make more
appointments, too.) We will need someone(s) to help line up folks to
go to the WABE studios (perhaps driving the elder folks there),
someone(s) to do the interviewing, AND someone(s) to help come up
with the questions.

2) Collect the archives. There are documents, pictures, etc.,
scattered all over the city, and beyond --- wouldn't be great to
collect, index & digitize them (of course returning them if people
want the originals)? It would be wonderful to have a place to keep
them in Pine Lake, but we might prefer to let DeKalb Historical
Society hold them, since they will probably have better
climate-controlled facilities.

If we digitized them, we'd have a virtual archive (to post on the
website, so people can help us identify them, or faceBook, as has
already happened...)

We could use these documents, images (and stories!) as source
material for the creation of art works: a mural at the playground,
dances, possibly even a story play. Dallas Denny has also talked
about producing a "coffee table" book!.

3) Let's talk about the 75th Anniversary Celebration itself -- what
should we do, when and how? Bury a time capsule to open in another
75 years? Big birthday party with cake?

4) Finally, what are YOUR ideas for celebrating our 75th?

Location: Pine Lake Club House and Beach

Description: Parade begins at the Club House 11:30 AM with Memorial Day honors and then parade around lake to the Beach "Official" opening and picnic. PLAIN's ice cream social is at 2:00pm.
